July 09, 2018 07:35 AM

Sangrur,, 8 July ( Panjabi Tmes News) Dissatisfied with their performance against drug smugglers and gamblers, Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mandeep Sidhu on Sunday suspended two SHOs and four other police officials. All six have been transferred to the Police Lines. They include Sherpur police station SHO Rakesh Kumar, Malerkotla-2 police station SHO Nirmal Singh and four others posted in the Sherpur police station - ASI Darshan Singh and head constables Karnail Singh, Deepak Kumar and Nirmal Singh (driver). Sources said the SSP had received complaints from residents of various villages falling under Sherpur and Malerkotla police stations that SHOs were not acting promptly against drug peddlers. “The Sherpur SHO failed to act against drug peddlers despite having the required information and he also failed to supervise the working of his juniors. The Malerkotla-2 SHO failed to act immediately against drug peddlers and gamblers despite having specific information,” SSP Sidhu said. Mandeep Sidhu added that despite strict directions against drugs, the suspended cops were not taking required interest in special campaign against the menace. “Neither they were conducting the required raids on drug peddlers nor were they spreading awareness against drugs to save the youth from the scourge. All the suspended policemen have been transferred to the Police Lines to conduct further investigations of complaints against them,” said the SSP.
